1) Go under the Format Menu 2) Choose Replace Fonts 3) No matter which fonts you’ve used, replace them all with a standard one (Times New Roman) is probably the safest. 4) Try now “Save As” under a new name

The shutting off could also be due to a loose motherboard component: loose hdd, heat sink, lack of thermal paste on heat sink, loose RAM, modem, wifi card, loose data or power connection somewhere.
Could also be due to a possible break in a circuit somewhere on the motherboard caused by small fissures (cracks) on a component level piece on the motherboard.
The M35 does not use the challenge code method like some of the newer Toshibas. You will have to take it to a Toshiba ASP "authorized service partner" to have it reset. I am Toshiba certified, but I can't help you with you password.

As mick has pointed out, you may have damaged the board if you did not unplug the computer prior to removing the battery. You also need to practice proper static discharge procedures.
You also stated you removed the cables from the board. Are you sure they are now connected correctly?
You could test the board by booting with ONLY the following connected. CPU/Hsink/fan, 1 stick of RAM, power supply to motherboard connections, monitor to board and keyboard. NO case to board connections, add in cards, drives of any kind, no external hardware other than the aforementioned. You do need a sound device, which should be integrated on the motherboard.
You start the board by shorting the two power switch pins momentarily with screwdriver or other. You should get a post up to an onscreen message indicating there is no bootable device. If that doesn’t happen then try removing the stick of RAM and rebooting. You should then get an audible error.

Laptops are always compromises between Size, weight, performance, battery life, price, and other factors and they need to match the best combination for usability. Then there is the graphics, with stock onboard graphics you get poor performance on gaming, video, CAD, Photoshop, etc. and changing the CPU will not improve that at all. If you really need something better, see what resale value yours has (not too old) and upgrade to something that can handle what you plan to use it for or keep the portable for it’s portability and get a desktop for performance for a lot less money than a laptop that will have less power for more money. Also the desktop will have more ability to upgrade if you ever need it.
