It is asking a question. It is saying “Do you want me to compress those files”.
In a normal, properly working system you can safely let the computer compress old files to save disk space.
It will fail if you have bad memory or bad hard drive but in either of those cases you have other problems anyway.

Simply type “Windows 98 printers” and check the box to “include in description”. By doing this eBay will return results for Windows 98 if it appears within the listing’s specifications: http://www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?_sac…

Further you can use this situation to your advantage in correcting the NDIS error by extracting NDIS.VXD file from the update shown in the link in #2 above using WinZip and placing the file in the Windows/options/cab folder. 98 will see that it has already been extracted and will use it instead of the broken compressed version found within the .CABs files. Your update has been essentially applied by installing in this manner, but to do this correctly you should apply the update over the top of itself once Windows is running fine and this action will write the proper registry entries for the update.
You can also replace the file in boot to DOS mode. It belongs in the Windows/SYSTEM folder. Registry entries are not need for the update to work, they just record that the update has been applied properly.
Yes, this is a processor too fast error, and a common stumbling block, hopefully the update in link of post #2 will fix the issue.

If he reformats the partition (ntfs) – which will of course erase “everything” from the drive – and then boots up with the recovery disk set – it “ought” to reset/re-install the system to as delivered. The drive/partition “must” be already formatted (as ntfs) if booting from the recovery disc set. If .it’s not then the process grinds to a halt. When one uses the recovery partition, or the disks from within windows itself, the system in effect checks to see if the partition is already ntfs; which of course it would normally be.

I can explain how to overclock your CPU by tweaking the BIOS settings & you should get a bit of a performance boost, but it can’t make up for having slower than optimal RAM & a entry-level non-gaming card.
I’ll review the motherboard manual & post back later with some BIOS setting recommendations….

LOL, don't worry. It's a laptop anyway so it wouldn't of had a sound card in the first place. According to this thread, you could try a cleanup with Advanced System Care, then reboot and it fixes it for a while. Another post there says that it was a hardware problem and had to repaired; so I can’t entirely tell you what to do.
If the cleanup doesn’t work, and it’s out of the warranty (which I suspect), you could also try getting an external USB audio adapter.
