Do you understand what “Idle” means? 97-99% idle means only 1-3% of the CPU is being used. So let me put it this way – are you concerned that 1-3% of the CPU is being used when the system is sitting idle (aka not running any programs)?

As has been explained about IDE channels, there are 2 (primary & 2ndary) & each channel can support 2 devices (master & slave). So the device possibilities are:

    primary master + primary slave
    2ndary master + 2ndary slave

And there are optimal ways of configuring the devices depending on how many devices you have & whether they are HDDs or optical drives. I won’t bother listing the possibilities because you have provided no systems specs.

As for the listings in Device Manager, it’s not unusual to have duplicates. If you’re concerned, right click on each one & click uninstall (if it will let you). Uninstall all you can, then reboot & Windows will re-install what it needs.

I have resolved the issue with the help of Hirens Boot CD which proved to be immensely useful.

I do not know how but my entire C drive had been wiped clean after the mentioned error, so I could not restore my PC. I was left with no other option than to re-install Windows. I used Hirns Boot Cd to copy my data from the system to a pen drive and then formatted windows.

The pci.sys error I was getting was because
I was trying to install XP SP1 when my PC had SP2.

    Thanks for your help too

And the reason it’s not installed (or disabled) is because it’s a pirated installation. You’ve been asking about this for about a month now. Are your googling skills really that bad? The fix is out there, we just can’t discuss such things because it’s against forum policy. I gave you all the clues I could in your other thread, it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. Maybe you should go back & have another look.

“the product key listed does not match the product key listed in Windows when you go to My Computer, Properties”

Of course not, because that’s not the product key. If you want to know what the key is, use the free version of Magic Jelly Bean:

Proper setup of TCP/IP and NW Link IPX/SPX/NetBios services, including installation of these protocols if needed, and also including specifying appropriate network IP addresses, proper and appropriate port forwarding, as required, and unchecking the box “Use default gateway on remote network” under the Advanced TCP/IP settings’ “General” tab, can assist you to set up your VPN successfully and save you from hours – or days – of frustration and anguish.

An 8Gb hard drive is very small by todays standards, but there are a few things you might find helpful.
1:- Use CCleaner to regularly remove clutter from the drive ( use the built-in registry tool to keep it clean, also).

2:- Right-click the “recycle bin” and select “Properties”. Here you can lower the capacity of the recycle bin to use less HDD space.

3:- You can also lower the amount of HDD space available to “System Restore”.

4:- MS Office gives you the option to not install all its features (if they are needed at any time, you’re prompted for the disk). Remove what you don’t need.

5:- You can remove any unneeded Windows components, e.g. games, calculator, etc. It’s done via “Add/Remove Programs” in the Control Panel.

6:- You can also delete any unused wallpapers, turn off the indexing of the drive, remove the ServicePackUninstall folder from the Windows directory and any other useless junk.

There are probably many more things you could do, but that’s enough to get you started. Actually, that’s my excuse (truth is I’m getting old and my memory ain’t what it was, LOL).

I wasn’t able to view the links earlier. The Gigabyte splash screen comes up, then after a brief delay, the system boots into Windows. The BIOS settings are a mess. Why do you have the all integrated graphics settings enabled? And why are you running the SATA controller in IDE mode? If you’re using a USB keyboard, try switching to a PS/2 & see if that will allow you into the BIOS to fix all the settings.

Why did you switch to a workstation graphics card?

“The Quadro lineup is geared toward graphics professionals, engineers, medical imaging, geospatial, or anyone who needs very heavy computational performance. By “heavy” we’re not talking photographs and web graphics. Think more along the lines of a 3D model that accurately describes every thread of every bolt in your whole damn car – and all the other parts. Think programs likeAutodesk Maya, The Foundry’s Nuke and Nukex, Catia, SolidWorks.”

“So does that make Quadro cards faster at gaming? Surprisingly no. They’ll be on-par with an equivalent GeForce card, sometimes a touch slower sometimes faster but by no significant margin. Remember, game engines are written with GeForce in mind. Technically, you can play games with a Quadro with pretty-settings cranked up on your workstation, but it’s not nirvana.”
