Generally, yes it can. I have a mobile phones and a Sat Nav that are both re-charged through the USB cable plugged into a the computer.

There is a international agreement being discussed where all hand held device will have a USB connection for charging purposes even though the device may not have any other USB capabilities. It avoids the plethora of different charging adapters with different voltages, different polarities and different sizes that invulnerably end up in the rubbish bin. With USB all you need is a cable that can be reused.

So if the phone has a USB connection, it will most probably charge the phone. All you can do is plug it in and try it. It wont do any harm if it wont.

“How different are the GMA X4500 vs 8400gs?”

The 8400GS should be slightly better but it depends on which one you have. There were 3 different versions – the original was based on the G86 GPU, the 2nd was based on the G98, & the 3rd was based on the GT218. There were both PCI & PCI-e cards, plus some used DDR2 & others used DDR3.

If your card has the weakest GPU, DDR2, & it’s PCI rather than PCI-e, I would expect the performance to be very similar to the X4500. If you want to play games & play them well, I suggest you dump the slow/outdated 8400GS & invest in a decent PCI-e gaming card with GDDR5 memory.

  6. Does it read CDs but not DVDs? Or no media at all? As I understand it, there are separate lasers for CDs & DVDs. If your drive reads one type of disc but not the other, one of the lasers is probably bad which means the drive will have to be replaced.

It appears that you have an AMI BIOS. See your beep codes here:
    http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beep…

If you are sure that it is 3 short beep codes then:

Your computer has memory problems. First check video. If video is working, you’ll see an error message. If not, you have a parity error in your first 64K of memory. First check your SIMM’s. Reseat them and reboot. If this doesn’t do it, the memory chips may be bad. You can try switching the first and second banks memory chips. First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds its first 64K of base memory in. You’ll need to consult your manual to see which bank is first. If all your memory tests good, you probably need to buy another motherboard.

NOTE: You have not told us what memory speed you are using only that it is DDR3. Your manual has cautionary notes against memory useage. Read those carefully. It also stipulates certain conditions on use of dual channel memory. Read those also. It also stipulates relationship of your memory with the CPU. Make sure that is not a problem.

Check that there isn’t a mounting post or something like that possibly shorting the motherboard underneath.

If you have not tried it, then I suggest use a single stick of memory in single channel mode and see if that works.

If it is video and its on board, then I suggest you go back to your seller and either get a replacement or a refund.

There is no automatic installer for that driver. You need to go to Device Manager and open the properties of the device. Then, find where it says to install or update the driver.

Follow the wizard, but make all the manual choices. Don’t let it do any automatic searching. On the last page, check the bottom box that says you will specify the location of the driver.

You will eventually get to a place that has a “Have Disk” button. Press the button even though you don’t have the disk and point it to the .inf file in the unzipped folder.
