It’s not like a computer hard drive where deleted content can often be recovered. VHS tapes don’t work like that.

For VHS recordings that you want to preserve, you should have snapped off the small plastic tab on the edge of the cassette. When you do that you can’t record over it (but playback still works).

It’s too late for that now.

When you restart from the startup menu and select Safe Mode do you still get the black DOS screen?

It’s possible something has gone into Autoexec.bat so try typing the following commands from DOS:

    ren c:\autoexec.bat autoexec.old

    ren c:\config.sys config.old

Type these “exactly” (including spaces) and hit Enter after each of the two command lines.

The above action temporarily disables the two files and Windows should start without them. They are only necessary for games etc run in DOS.

To restore them, if necessary, use these commands:

    ren c:\autoexec.old autoexec.bat

    ren c:\config.old config.sys

If sfc /scannow asked for the disk then it might mean that some file or other was faulty or missing.

Type eventvwr.msc in the “Run” box and look under the “System” section.

Sfc should be logged as “Information” when it starts and exits, and as “Error”
if it came across a corrupt file or could not locate the original installation files.

Whatever, it would be interesting to see what it says.

Off the top of my head, as it works sometimes it sounds more like a hardware issue.
If the driver was wrong then it would most likely never work with it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks

Lock the PCIe at 100 fixed.
    Disable C states.

riider will probably pop by and give you more details as I have forgot much in the details.

Please note that you have not mentioned your graphics card (if any) and that will have at least as much to do with the graphics performance in gaming and actually more. Seriously consider upgrading that if you cannot yet upgrade the system and back down on the game settings.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I specified “DECT 6.0” so that you would know I was asking
about the kind of phone commonly referred to as “cordless”,
not the kind referred to as “mobile” or “cellular”. Along with
the fact that the brand is Panasonic, that should be all you
need to know. But I actually have two such units. One is
model KX-TG4021, and the other is model KX-TG6531.

After a lot of searching — starting before my original post —
I finally found the manual for the latter unit. It has a lot of
info. It will take some time to read every possible relevant
section, but the most likely-looking entries in the index
haven’t turned up what I want, and I don’t remember ever
reading that what I want is an available feature. It just
    seems like it should be.

One cool thing I just discovered, though: After more than a
year and a half of being unplugged, the unit I’m not currently
using still has the messages it recorded.
