  2. You may have to get the Fan assembly replaced.. Did you send it to HP for repair? Call technical support to get it picked up for repair.

Personally I’d be more focused on screening etc. as from my own (limited) experience gold connectors on vga likely don’t make a deal of difference… Maybe with dvdi, hdmi it might may make a difference but can’t say for sure.

If the external monitor had worked then likely the problem would have to do with the screen only, everything else being OK. But since neither do then the problem is going to be some difficult-to-isolate internal problem.

but it didn’t seem helpful so I didn’t mention it but you might want to take a look. Apparently that person got into the boot menu and changed the first boot device to realtek (network boot) and it went ahead and booted up. But once he shut it off the problem remained.

My guess is your bios is corrupted or some related motherboard problem. And since it’s a laptop the user is limited on what he can personally do to fix it. So a shop may be best.

You may want to wait a day or two just to see if anyone else posts in here with a different idea.

  6. The computer wasn't on hibernate if the surge protector was off. The computer was off once you shut the surge protector. Either way, chances are the power supply is bad.

Do you plan on upgrading the power supply? If not, stick to lower end cards. The Bestec power supplies used in most eMachines have a higher than average failure rate & will buckle under the load of a higher end gaming card.

I have no idea how it fixd it, but I’ll take it.
