The flashing blue light must be the power light. It normally flashes when
the computer is in sleep mode. In that situation, pressing a key on the
keyboard should wake it.

I assume that is not the situation– The light should be on continuously
and the computer should be working.

First, please confirm that it is the power light you see flashing, not the
HDD (hard disk drive) access light. It typically flashes once per second
while the computer is running, even though no disk access is going on.

If it is the power light, then the computer’s power supply may have gone
bad, or there could be a problem in the motherboard. If you have access
to a good replacement power supply, and someone who can swap the
power supplies for you, that could be worth trying.

However, your computer is likely so cheap and so old that it isn’t worth
buying a new power supply, especially if it isn’t certain that that is the
problem.

Do the fans start up normally? If so, do they keep running, or do they
stop when the blue power light starts flashing?

Does anything at all ever display on the screen? If so, is it part of the
boot process, or just a message saying that the monitor isn’t getting a
signal from the computer, and is going into power-saving mode?

If the fans come on and sound normal, it could be the monitor or the
cable connection to the monitor that is at fault. Check that the cable
is firmly connected. Try a different cable and a different monitor if
they are available.

You can try this:

1. Power off the computer and unplug the power cord.

2. Disconnect all external devices.

3. Remove the battery if possible. (Refer to user manual for your model)

4. Press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds to drain capacitors.

5. Plug the power cord back into the computer and press the power button.

6. Watch the front panel lights or optical drive lights, and listen for the fans.

7. If the computer boots, then power it off and reconnect external devices.

8. Restart the computer.

If that doesn’t work, look for a place near you that recycles computers.
Such a place in Minneapolis takes old computers, determines which
parts work and which parts are junk, wipes the good hard drives clean
of all data, installs a new operating system, and sells them at extremely
low prices. You may find a suitable computer there if your community
has a similar outfit.

I recommended ver 2.11 for a computer similar to yours in a previous thread.

It could also be the cdrom or hard drive (even though the HD doesn’t show any scandisk errors) but test the ram first.
