Solved Folder With A / Was Deleted But Get Error It Is Named Wrong?

  • 4

I have a user who receives the following error message: “One or more folders in your mailbox is named incorrectly. The name of one or more of your folders includes the character “/” or more than 250 characters. Folders with names that include this character can’t be downloaded to your IMAP e-mail program. Please rename these folders: xxx” xxx is the name of the folder the user deleted. This folder does not exist anymore, and her deleted items folder is empty. I ran a scanpst to make sure there are no errors in the pst file, and see if this solves the problem, but it does not. The error message came back. Also, after running scanpst.exe, I rebooted the computer. We are using Microsoft Office 2010 SP2, and Exchange Server 2010. Windows 7 SP1 is our O/S.

  1. Ok, I may have found the solution. The user deleted all their files from the deleted items folder, NOT the folders the user deleted. If you delete a folder, then you have to expand the Deleted Items folder to see those folders you actually deleted. I’m pretty sure when this user deleted their email, they did not expand and delete the deleted folder. I saw when googling that this was one of the first things to check, but I did not think of expanding the Deleted Items folder. So, I googled how to find a deleted folder, and that’s where I found out to expand the Deleted Items folder. Thanks for your help!!!
