    TLDR

    • Palladyne AI shares climbed 13% Wednesday morning following a U.S. Navy contract announcement
    • GuideTech, a company subsidiary, secured the contract for Air-Launched Rapid Response Missile (ALRRM) development
    • The weapon system targets speeds exceeding Mach 4.0 with a range surpassing 350 nautical miles
    • The missile features a 150 lb warhead powered by an air-breathing solid fuel ramjet engine
    • The company declined to disclose contract financial details

Palladyne AI (PDYN) shares experienced a 13% surge Wednesday morning following the announcement that GuideTech, a company subsidiary, secured a U.S. Navy contract for near-hypersonic missile development.

Palladyne AI $PDYN subsidiary GuideTech received a U.S. Navy contract to develop the Air-Launched Rapid Response Missile, a near-hypersonic weapon designed to fly more than 350 nautical miles at speeds above Mach 4 while carrying a 150-pound warhead. pic.twitter.com/fWaS4W7Rxc

    — Wall St Engine (@wallstengine) March 18, 2026

The weapon system, designated the Air-Launched Rapid Response Missile (ALRRM), aims to provide affordable air-breathing hypersonic capability while maintaining competitive performance standards.

Designed for high-altitude operations, the ALRRM will achieve a range exceeding 350 nautical miles. The system maintains cruise speeds beyond Mach 4.0, positioning it near the hypersonic classification of Mach 5.

The missile system incorporates a 150 lb warhead, utilizing an air-breathing solid fuel ramjet for propulsion. Navy specifications require the weapon to conform to designated size and weight parameters.

Palladyne AI CEO Ben Wolff referenced the 2025 National Security Strategy as motivation for the program. The strategy document emphasizes developing advanced missiles that balance performance with cost efficiency.

Wolff described the ALRRM as addressing this strategic requirement. According to him, the U.S. military inventory currently lacks a missile matching the ALRRM’s combination of velocity, distance capability, and payload capacity at comparable dimensions and cost.

The company characterized it as establishing a strike category for 5th generation fighters — featuring stealth deployment, near-hypersonic velocity, and deep-theater engagement capability.

    ALRRM’s Distinctive Features

Affordability represents a core element of the weapon’s value proposition. The ALRRM promises near-hypersonic performance at significantly reduced costs compared to similar weapons systems.

This consideration holds substantial weight in today’s defense landscape where cost-effectiveness has gained prominence. The Department of Defense continues emphasizing weapons systems suitable for large-scale production within reasonable budgets.

GuideTech operates within Palladyne AI’s defense division, sharing this segment with Palladyne Defense. The parent organization specializes in autonomous systems, UAV engineering, and AI platforms serving defense and industrial clients.

    Financial Details Remain Confidential

The Navy contract’s financial parameters were withheld from public disclosure. Palladyne AI provided no information regarding the contract’s monetary value or development phase schedules.

PDYN shares traded 13% higher during Wednesday morning sessions following the announcement. The company’s warrants trade under the ticker PDYNW on Nasdaq.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, the organization concentrates on U.S. government and public-sector clientele, prioritizing data sovereignty and security compliance requirements.

The ALRRM contract represents another defense achievement for the GuideTech division, which specializes in advanced avionics and precision-manufactured components.
