The System Has Been Shut Down

My laptop is a Sony Vaio model b100b. Operating system id Windows XP I have the Original disk During boot a message appears: A disk read error occurred press ctrl,alt,del to restart. I make it sure that hard drive and CDR drive is detected in BIOS. Inserted the OS in CD drive then press any key to boot from CD.The PC shuts down after windows load files. I also tried using Norton bootable recovery but an error appears: STOP: c000021a (FATAL SYSTEM ERROR) The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xcoooooo1 0x001003a8) . The system has been shut down

    1. Sounds like it is time to replace the hard drive. Download seatools for dos, make a bootable cd. Start the computer and let it boot to the diagnostic cd, you may have to change the boot order in the bios if you do not have a “startup menu” option. Do a quick gneric test if it fails, it’s toast, if it passes do the long generic test, any fails mean replacement. Here is a link, the iso download is near the very bottom.
