Im trying to instal Windows XP from boot cd. The CD starts from boot, but does not get to next window (install, repair etc…) It stops and tells me “sparrow.sys is corrupted, push any button to restart computer)
I was trying to get to Repair menue to delete a bad “boot.ini” then BootCfg /Rebild.
I want to get Windows XP back up and running without loosing any data
It also stated that this was
at line 3540 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c.
download and wipe your hard drive with boot and nuke
unzip the file and burn it to cd
then put cd in in cdtray
turn off your computer and turn it back on
boot and nuke will detect your harddrive and you can begin wiping it out /zeroing it
http://dban.sourceforge.net/
choose this option
Download DBAN for installation on CD and DVD media.
then try to reinstall windows
make sure your cds is clean and no scratches when reinstalling
Try washing your Windows install disk in warm, soapy water, then dry it thoroughly (with a soft cloth, to avoid scratches). Ever since XP came out, I’ve been seeing the problem of a seemingly clean disk reading as having corrupted files.
