Reset/Delete System – Administrator Password On DELL D510

  • 2

A friend gave me a dell d510 laptop if I could fix it. It needed a new battery and charger and now when it boots up it goes to the screen asking for a System or Administrator password. I have been trying to clear the CMOS ,removing battery backup for 30 mins and nothing seems to help. I cant even hit a F1,F2 orF12 key during bootup at the dell pro
met it just goes on to the password page and he cant remember the password either

  1. Is this the windows password screen that’s doing the asking or a password set by the bios? If it’s a windows password by default with XP the main Administrator account won’t have a password, unless you’ve added one. So you’d hit F8 to get the boot menu, choose safe mode and log into the administrator account. From there you’d go to user accounts in control panel to remove passwords from other accounts. This isn’t a security lapse by MS; it’s by design.

But you say you can’t even hit the bios access keys so I’m thinking it may be a password set by the bios. I recall seeing some password cracks for Dell on ebay. You might check into that if it is a bios password. Other than that you’d probably have to contact Dell.
