I updated to Java 7, Update 9 a few months ago. I just noticed that the java applet no longer appears in control panel; there is an empty space were it once appeared. The applet now appears to be in the Java\Jre7\Bin folder and is entitled Java. Is this where it should be? This is the applet where you can set Java options and check for updates manually if you prefer.I also noticed a jre6 folder but it is empty; can this folder be deleted? Thanks.
P.S. I have more than one computer; that’s why I’m posting in the XP forum.
You could always uninstall Java 7-9 from Control Panel/Add-Remove progs then download and install it again. However, if you are having no issues it might be best to wait for their next update and see if that happens to fix it. In the meantime you still have a way to change settings.
Note that you should have a copy of javacpl.cpl in c:\windows\system32 which is the exact same version as the one in the Bin folder. If it is missing from System32 you could just copy it over (if it lets you). The control panel files are the ones in System 32.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks
