when I open email attachments in notepad form all I can see is a load of squiggle……please help

Make a small NotePad file and send it to yourself over email. If you can open it and read it in email then there is nothing wrong with txt file handling at your end.
If that too is showing garbage in email then save your NotePad attachment into a folder such as Documents or the desktop. See if opens and is readable when double clicked. That will tell us whether it is an email problem or a global system issue.
I’m getting the feeling that there is something wrong with the files you are being sent.
