In windows 7 its 20. but due to large data on the Shared drive and mapped to user’s. it makes me difficult to switch to other operating system.

  1. This should be simple. “Any sloution to this problem” Any solution was the OP’s request. Yes there web pages on how to bypass that limit. There are other ways to access files that may or may not suit the users.
All file access would suffer concurrent edit issues even if samba/cifs. It should lock a file when edited or trying to save while another is open.

I have no problem with ijack, he and I can discuss technical issues.
From a MS tech book he is correct in the number and he offers choices on different OS just as I offered different file access ideas.

The OP is welcome to decide on what they feel is best.

  2. Not really as good as SMB are they. No file locking so you can have difficulties with multiple users updating the same file.

  3. Well, there are ways. Might be easier to setup a simple ftp or http https access for multiple users.

  4. You are correct that the limit in XP is 10 concurrent users. You can’t change it. You need to install either Windows 7 or a server OS. XP is not really designed to be used instead of a proper server OS.
