Solved Remote Access Connection Manager Service Issue

  • 0

Hi computing.net universe. Recently I updated both my laptop and desktop from windows 10 pro fall edition 1709 to 1803 from a usb drive. Used Microsoft’s MediaCreatorTool downloading the iso. The issue is with the desktop. Trying to connected to the internet by dialup. Won’t connected. Event log shows “The Remote Access Connection Manager Service failed to start due to the following error: the data is invalid.” Checked all of it’s dependence and all other services that are required are running. Manual trying to start the connection manager service and it fails to start. Compared it with the laptop. The same service is running on it. Never had issue before when I update using the same method when I updated from what ever the previous build was before 1709.
Thanks in advance.

  1. Issue solved myself. When first release of fall edition, there was a bug in it that would have produced an connection failed with error 633. Fix was to append a line in the RasMan in the registry. For some reason I saw the 633 error again for April’s update release. I added the fix back in. Didn’t notice that this latest version already includes that entry in the registry. The laptop has that and it never has seen a dialup connection. Missed spotting it on the desktop and added a line and accidentally added a “s”. That was what was causing the error. Removed the whole line as the correct one was already there for this edition of windows. All is good. Why the error 633 in the first place as it had the line in there. Momentary glitch I guess.
