“The difference lies in the use we give to these tools: 1) OneNote and Word require a Microsoft account, being the first a note taking app with support for formatting and multimedia, and the second a word processing app; 2) Notepad and Wordpad are included in Windows, Notepad being just a plain text note taking app while Wordpad includes fancy formatting and support for rich media, but not word processing features such as syntax, grammar, and spell checking; 3) I’d like to add Sticky Notes to this list, as it is a tool bundled with Windows, serving to take plain text notes; so, any of these 5 tools are able to be used to take plain text notes; OneNote orders notes in a database, Wordpad is able to format a note to be printed nicely, while Word Online is part of Microsoft 365, and it is able to store files in OneDrive, a cloud storage service offered free of charge to users with a Microsoft account. “
