If you don't have all your important stuff backed up, safest way is to remove the drive & slave it to another comp. You can then run chkdsk on the faulty drive. It will give an report.

I did some research and it probably IS F10 you need to press to get into the bios Setup, because that’s what it is for the Presario 74xx series.
Try pressing F10 repeatedly starting just after the memory count starts.
If that doesn’t help, or in any case
Getting the 162 error SHOULD NOT freeze the bios and prevent you from getting into the operating system on the hard drive, if you have that.
I suspect you have some other problem
One or more of: – you have incompatible ram installed in the mboard. E.g. this mboard probably can use max 256mb SDram modules in each ram slot, and 256mb modules probably MUST have 16 memory chips – 8 on each side – not 8 on one side – modules with an odd number of memory chips – 9 – on one side or on each of both sides may NOT be supported. (The memory chips are all the same size – there may be 1, 2, or 3 additional smaller chips.)
– you are trying to use a hard drive of a size larger than the max size the model originally came with that is not recognized properly by the bios version – some older bios versions made before 2001 (your computer was probably made before 2001) have bugs that will freeze the bios while booting in that case. There are bios bugs that affect drives larger than binary size 8.4gb, 32gb, and 64 gb. In this case your bios version may have either the one(s) for 32gb or 64gb.
In any case, the main chipset cannot recognoze drivers larger than 137gb manufacturer’s size (= 128gb in the bios and in Windows) as their full size even if the bios version does not have bugs (they are recognized as128gb max).
– you have one or more IDE drives jumpered incorrectly
– you have a problem with your IDE data cable(s)
– you may have one or more dead drive
If you disconnect the hard drive(s) if that applies, or all hard and CD or DVD drive(s) if that applies – the data cables – you should be able to get into the bios Setup no problem, if you have not installed incompatible ram, – and a bootable floppy in a floppy drive should be detected fine, if the floppy drive is connected properly, there’s nothing wrong with the drive, and the bios Boot Order or similar settings list a floppy drive first.

I think phil22 may be correct. Some word processor maybe is doing an autosave or some normal temporary storage of a file. That file is used to hold your work in progress. Don’t know why all of a sudden. Could it be that you are not able to properly shutdown your system? Did you install some word processor app?
You should be able to at least send them to the recycle bin and see if they are needed at all.

That’s probably on a label on the outside of the case.
If yours has a different P/N (part) number, tell us what it is.
There are no manuals there, however, I might be able to dig up one, or more than one.
Your model was made by Compaq BEFORE HP merged with Compaq.
