Yow CAN use an IDE hard drive. Your issue is probably the settings in the BIOS screens.

Your BIOS should have settings to enable/disable all the IDE and SATA ports. Check to verify the IDE is enabled and that your IDE drive is being configured in the BIOS by watching the POST screens at start up.

If all your drives are being configured you should see a screen that allows you to choose where to install Windows. If you didn’t see that screen then maybe you have a problem with BIOS settings or IDE configurations.

Do you have more than one IDE drive connected to the same cable as the 80GB? If so, you need to check the jumper settings.

Normally I would say there is no real reason why you need to change to WLM. However, by chance, doing so might happen to fix your issue. It cured a problem when we had a Vista laptop (unread emails were not getting marked as such).

So, I’m tempted to so “go for it” because email issues can often be tricky to fix. There is some useful information here (which might turn you on or off):

You will need a bootable Mac OS 9 CD, or other device with a bootable system folder on it. Boot off of that and remove the keychain extenstion and multiple users control panel and don’t use them ever again. You can also try simply holding down the Shift key upon start up to disable the extensions, but I don’t think that will work.

I’m going from memory here thou, I never used those features because Mac OS classic was never meant to be a multiple user OS and there is third party software out there that allowed a much better password protection scheme.

You guys won’t believe this. Before I tell you, I want to thank both of you for sticking through this with me and trying to resolve my issue. I will try to contribute to this website as much as I can since you guys have been very kind and showed eagerness to resolve my problem.

So, I was looking through some other forum posts about my same exact issue. I found a thread in which lot of people were experiencing the same exact issue as mine. Further down the thread, somebody mentioned their mouse causing the problem. The next post someone mentioned this,

“Hey. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a constantly-pressed side button of the mouse.”

Upon reading this, a great giant nuke of a light bulb came on in my head and I realized that the issue began occurring ever since my side mouse button began acting up. What the problem was with the mouse is that I would barely touch it and the page I was browsing would go back a page. I also experienced this in teamspeak where my microphone button was lit up even though I was not pressing the button. I pressed the button to try to turn off the open microphone I had but no luck. At that moment I muted my microphone and thought nothing of it.

I tried replicating the issue by hitting ctrl+alt+delete and canceling task manager so that I have no hang/freeze occurring at the moment. I go open up a browser, go forward a couple pages. I quickly hover my mouse over the bottom right notification icons to make sure everything still works. Then I hit the mouse button. I hover down in the bottom right and viola..the freeze occurred.

Funny thing about the mouse thing, I actually ordered a new mouse to replace my current mouse before realizing my fix to the issue.

Once again, thank you both for the kind help!

2215-EIT Failure VA boot record read failure.
Ensure drive with VA image is installed correctly.

If you delete it, or replace the HDD then maybe that is where you need to concentrate your efforts.

A VA can be uninstalled. This can be because a VA is no longer needed or the user wants to install a dif-
ferent VA. Only one VA can be installed at any given time.
The following provides an example of a VA 2.6 appliance uninstallation:
    1. Run the VA uninstallation file.
    2. Reboot the system.
The ME firmware will display an error stating that VA has been uninstalled with the VA boot policy set
to Verified Boot and Halt. You will then see the 2221 POST error message (see“Appendix A: POST
    Error Messages” on page 13).
3.Cycle power to the system and go into the MEBx by pressing Ctrl+P during POST.
    4. Enter the MEBx password. probably admin admin respectively.
    5.SelectIntel AMT Configuration.
    6. Select VA Configurationat the bottom of the list and change the VA Boot Policy to Normal Boot.
Depending on the BIOS version, the system may reboot and then display the 2228 POST message
(see “Appendix A: POST Error Messages” on page 13). This is an informational message that lets the
user know that VTx has automatically been disabled. Press F1 to continue the boot process.
The system boots normally to Windows XP.
