You may have to download ESET from a good computer, put it on a flash/thumb/pen drive & run it from there, if your comp is unbootable, or won’t let you download.

Why Would I Ever Need an Online Virus Scanner? I already have an antivirus program installed, isn’t that enough?
    http://www.squidoo.com/the-best-fre…
Once onto a machine, malware can disable antivirus programs, prevent antimalware programs from downloading updates, or prevent a user from running antivirus scans or installing new antivirus software or malware removal tools. At this point even though you are aware the computer is infected, removal is very difficult.
5: Why does the ESET Online Scanner run slowly on my computer?
If you have other antivirus, antispyware or anti-malware programs running on your computer, they may intercept the scan being performed by the ESET Online Scanner and hinder performance. You may wish to disable the real-time protection components of your other security software before running the ESET Online Scanner. Remember to turn them back on after you are finished.
17: How can I view the log file from ESET Online Scanner?
    http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?pag…
    http://www.eset.com/home/products/o…
The ESET Online Scanner saves a log file after running, which can be examined or sent in to ESET for further analysis. The path to the log file is “C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt”. You can view this file by navigating to the directory and double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer, or by copying and pasting the path specification above (including the quotation marks) into the Start ? Run dialog box from the Start Menu on the Desktop.
If no threats are found, you will simply see an information window that no threats were found.

Have you installed “anything” immediately prior to (before) the problem arrived?

Can you get into safe-mode? Press F8 when the system starts up; you may have to press it a few times, even possibly simply press and hold.

One thing to try as occasionally it works.

Remove all power, battery included. Then press and hold the on/off button for about half a minute or so. This discharges residual power in assorted components. Then restore normal power (battery included) and see if it will boot up ok.

Any “beeps” when the system starts up? If so what are they?

This should clear a stray error that is remaining in the memory and allow a clean start. It is easy and worth the try.

I looked at the picture you sent me via email, and I’ve never seen anything like that before that wasn’t game-specific, unless it was a hack copy and the person who cracked it added their logo in or something.

I’ll continue looking for similar problems like this, but so far it doesn’t look good. The list of games would be very helpful.

Do you find that the problem occurs when it is likely more people in the neighbourhood are accessing the Internet at the same time? Such as when school is out and people have returned home from work? Is there more than the one device in the household accessing the net such as IPTV or other users doing things on the Internet?

Another thing you can try instead of trying to open a webpage is to ping Google instead. Sending a ping request should determine if your internet is actually down as it only has to send and receive a few packets of data.

Edit: when the problem occurs again also try pinging your loopback address (127.0.0.1), this should determine if your network card is having issues.

Task Manager is a better place to disable startup items than Services if possible, if for no other reason than it is easy to see at a later date what you did. I thought I warned about this aspect of disabling services in another post and also about keeping records if you do so. “I disabled in Services, or if it was something else” won’t mean much a bit further down the line unless your memory is a lot better than mine.

Usually if you re-enable an item on the next boot it will say “not measured” or words to that effect. On subsequent boots it shows its impact again

Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks

I cheated a bit by setting up another delimiter, essentially
erasing the “>” from the input string:

    for /F "tokens=2 delims=^> " %%i IN (...

the carat (^) escapes the function of “>”, a special character
which typically redirects output. Hope this helps!

Also note that I added the closing ‘ within the IN ( ) statement, and removed the space after the = in “set loaddate=”, but perhaps the embedded space is indeed wanted…

The Finder will ask you something like “Would you like to Add the JPG file extension to this file”, choose Add.

Also you could select the file and choose “get info” and expand “Name & Extension”. It should have a file format if not add one.
