  1. An operating system is more than an interface for the user. It provides services that are commonly needed by applications and does things the application can’t do for itself. Each new OS provides a higher level of services that it’s predecessor. By taking advantage of these modern services an application provides valuable benefits to the user and gives it an edge over competing products that do not. The downside is that the application will no longer run on older operating systems or older computers. Applications usually support less than the latest OS but the time always comes when it just isn’t worthwhile anymore. The popularity of XP has delayed this but it’s time too must come.

When purchasing or downloading an application always check to see if your OS and computer meet the minimum requirements.
