I have a machine where the user needs to have their powerpoint documents that are clicked on in Internet Explorer, open in powerpoint, however they are opening in Internet Explorer in slideshow view. The user has Office 2010 and I have tried an office diagnostics repair and also tried adjusting the .ppt and .pptx file type properties to verify that power point is set to open them. I looked for settings in IE and powerpoint but found nothing related to this.
How can I force powerpoint to open these documents when clicked in IE instead of having IE open them.
It’s likely that Office has blocked the file for security reasons. You can unblock the file so it can be opened:
Open Windows File Explorer (Open Start in Windows and type File Explorer.)
Locate the problematic file on your computer.
Right-click the file and select Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, look for an Unblock button near the bottom right. If it exists, click Unblock, then click Apply, and then click OK to dismiss the dialog box.
Now, attempt to open the presentation again. Right-click the file in File Explorer and select Open.
Click “Select the program from a list” > Click OK
In that list, find Powerpoint. (If it’s not there, click browse and find it that way)
Click it, and then click the checkbox underneath that says “Always use the selected program to open this kind of file“
Click OK. The file will open in powerpoint. Close that off then try opening a file from IE again.
It should work.
