192.168.1.1 Wont Connect?

I have a linksys router model: WRT160N and I am on a Mac.. and I am trying to change some settings so I go to 192.168.1.1 and click enter but it says “Safari can’t open the page “http://192.168.1.1/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “192.168.1.1”. And I was wondering if anyone knows how to solve this problem please get back to me. Thank You.

      You put the IP address in the Address Bar of Safari and it should bring up the configuration page.

      The problem is you are probably not connected to the router. As stated above, you may not have your network card on the right subnet which could be fixed by setting your network card to…

      Address: 192.168.1.4
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

      or just set it to automatic (USING DHCP) so that the setting get put in automatically by the DHCP on your router.

      To test to see if this is the problem you would use a ping tool to see if you you are talking to the router.
