The battery charge light on my laptop was always red, so I bought a new battery thinking the old battery must be due for replacement (it’s 5 yrs old). The new battery will only charge to 88%, and the charge light still stays on red. Maybe the old battery wasn’t crook after all. I’ve tried discharging the battery down to 50% and recharging it, but when it gets to around 88% it seems to stop charging. The power adapter is quite hot when first charging but then cools down as if no (or little) power is being used when it gets to 88%, and the laptop charge light remains on red. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?
