Apparently the DV6 laptop series has several possible mboards (system boards).
Some DV6 models have a discrete video adapter (a removable video card that plugs into the mboard that has it’s own memory) – some have a video adapter built into the mboard.
We need to know which specific model you have.

Scroll down a bit.
Look for the similar label on the outside of your computer.
Quote the specific model number – that’s at the end of the first line.
Quote the Product number – that’s on the third line.
…..
If it has a video adapter built into the mboard, you may be able to increase the amount of memory the onboard video uses by changing a setting in the bios.
If it has a discrete video adapter, it has it’s own memory, you can’t change the amount, but it’s probably at least 512 mb.
In some cases, the system has both a video adapter built into the mboard and a discrete video adapter. The onboard video is used unless the computer detects that a program would benefit from using the discrete video adapter instead. In some cases that requires that a brand name program has the info it needs about the program , e.g. a game , you want to use, and in some cases you must update the info for that program, or manually set up that program for the program you want to use, in order for the discrete video adapter to be used.
If all your specific model has is a video adapter built into the mboard, the only way you can significantly improve the video performance is to use an external monitor with an external display adapter box that you plug into the laptop.
