Epson Styles NX420 Printer Won’t Print Black

We just installed a new black ink cartridge, and now it will not print in black. The color cartridges work just fine. I’m not sure if the cartridge was installed correctly, seeing as I did not do it, so I’m not sure how to fix it or what is wrong.

      I figured it out for my printer today… just got new ink, had the same problem, saw these posts getting me nowhere, so I figured ok the ink cartridge is fine… so what else is between that and the paper. I decided to go out on a limb and get a paper towel and clean off the little plastic nubbin that’s inside the printer (the part that sticks into the cartridge, sticking out from where you place the ink) and it printed completely perfectly after that.
