Can I Connect a 6 Pin Pci-e Into a 4 Pin?

  • 0

i dont know a lot about computers so im sorry if this is hard to understand.

i recently lost my power supply to my PC it was a APX-450 (ATX 2.03 [P4]),
i bought a new one which is a ATX-600 WCE-P4
when i saw the connections in what i believe is the mother board?..
i saw that there is a connection of only 4 pins available and the new power supply has a 6 pin minimum..
can i just plug the 6 pin into the 4 pin and leave the 2 pins hanging there?
or is it possible to somehow cut off the 2 wires ?
any help would be appreciate 🙂 thank you. (a bit urgent)

  1. I don’t know which plug you’re asking about but the motherboard usually requires a square 4-pin ATX12V plug & a 24-pin (or 20-pin) main ATX plug. That 4-pin plug is extremely important because that’s the one the supplies power to the CPU. If the power supply you bought doesn’t have one, you’re going to have to buy an adapter. But I find it hard to believe a modern power supply doesn’t have a 4-pin ATX12V plug. Maybe the following site will help:
