I have a Verbatim External Hard drive JH9317, i have only used it for about 3 months after i bought it 2 years ago. it stopped working and so i left it.
When i plug the power and usb in and then turn it on, it starts up with the sound of something spinning and getting ready to turn on… then it stops and starts beeping, every 2 seconds and the computer or laptop doesnt pick it up at all.
I desperately want to get my sons baby photos back…. is it fixable? and can i fix it myself?

The only other thing you might try is to boot the machine with a Linux Live CD but you have to know Linux commands in order to mount the drive.
