Windows Xp Setup Freezes Examining 114471 MB

trying to boot up normally i get hal.dll is missing or corrupt error,trying to reinstall i get a big freeze at Examining 114471 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on iastor.Thanks kindly for your time,jo

    1. Looks like your harddrive may have a fault. Find out the drive manufacturer (should be easily accessed in the base of the laptop) and then download/run the manufacturer’s diagnostic program.

    2. Are you trying to boot to a different hard drive that came out of another WinXP computer?

      Look at the link below for help with that error. HAL stands for Hardware Abstraction Layer. That is a necessary file to configure the hardware.
