British AI infrastructure provider Nscale announced on Monday, March 9 that it has completed a $2 billion Series C funding round, elevating the company’s valuation to $14.6 billion.
Aker of Norway and 8090 Industries spearheaded the investment round. The roster of participating investors featured Nvidia, Citadel, Dell, and Jane Street.
Established in 2024, Nscale has built a business around owning and managing data centres, GPUs, and a proprietary software stack designed to deliver AI computing power at scale.
The company serves major AI industry players, including Microsoft and OpenAI.
Nscale plans to deploy the fresh capital toward expanding its data centre infrastructure to address the surging demand for AI computing resources.
The funding announcement coincides with three prominent additions to Nscale’s board. Nick Clegg, who previously held an executive position at Meta, will join alongside Sheryl Sandberg, Meta’s former COO, and Susan Decker, who served as President of Yahoo.
Clegg held the position of Vice President of Global Affairs at Meta until his departure in 2024. Sandberg completed a 14-year tenure as Meta’s COO, stepping down in 2022.
Public Market Debut on the Horizon
The fundraising milestone arrives as Nscale advances its preparations for entering public markets. Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan have already been engaged as underwriters for the anticipated IPO.
Reuters reported earlier this year that sources indicated the company has yet to finalize a specific timeline for the listing.
Accessing public markets would provide Nscale with additional capital resources amid intensifying competition in the AI infrastructure sector.
Strategic Investment from Nvidia
Nvidia’s involvement in this funding round carries strategic significance. The semiconductor manufacturer has been building a portfolio of investments in AI infrastructure providers that depend on its GPU technology.
Nscale operates a GPU-centric computing platform, positioning Nvidia as a strategic investor aligned with the company’s technology foundation.
Dell’s participation in the round aligns with its expanding focus on AI infrastructure through its hardware and server product lines.
Aker, the Norwegian industrial conglomerate leading the round, has been broadening its investment portfolio to include technology and energy transition sectors.
8090 Industries partnered with Aker as co-lead investor, despite maintaining a more modest public presence compared to other participants in the round.
While Nscale has kept revenue figures confidential, the $14.6 billion valuation demonstrates substantial investor confidence in companies developing the foundational infrastructure that supports AI model operations.
The company confirmed that IPO preparation activities continue, with both Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan actively involved as underwriting partners.
