    Key Highlights

    • OpenAI completed a historic $110 billion financing round, setting a new record for private investment
    • Amazon led with $50 billion, while Nvidia and SoftBank each contributed $30 billion
    • The company’s pre-money valuation reached between $730 billion and $840 billion
    • AWS secured exclusive rights as the third-party cloud provider for OpenAI’s Frontier enterprise platform
    • The AI company anticipates generating over $280 billion in revenue by the end of the decade

OpenAI has successfully completed a $110 billion financing round, establishing a new benchmark as the largest private investment in corporate history. This unprecedented deal represents more than double the amount raised in its previous funding round twelve months earlier.

We have raised a $110 billion round of funding from Amazon, NVIDIA, and SoftBank.

We are grateful for the support from our partners, and have a lot of work to do to bring you the tools you deserve.

    — Sam Altman (@sama) February 27, 2026

Amazon has pledged $50 billion as its total commitment to this round. The tech giant will deploy an initial $15 billion immediately, with the remaining $35 billion scheduled for release upon achieving specific milestones.

Nvidia has invested $30 billion in the financing round. SoftBank matched this amount with its own $30 billion contribution. According to OpenAI’s announcement, additional investors will participate as the round continues to develop.

This financing establishes OpenAI’s pre-money valuation in the range of $730 billion to $840 billion. This represents substantial growth compared to the $500 billion valuation assigned during last October’s secondary transaction.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman discussed the landmark deal during his appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box Friday morning. He expressed enthusiasm about the achievement and emphasized how artificial intelligence is reshaping economic structures globally.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy joined the same CNBC program to share his perspective. He praised OpenAI’s initial performance and expressed confidence in the company emerging as a dominant force in the artificial intelligence sector.

AWS Becomes Exclusive Cloud Partner for OpenAI Frontier Platform

The agreement designates Amazon Web Services as the sole third-party cloud distribution partner for OpenAI Frontier. This enterprise-focused platform enables organizations to develop and deploy AI agents at scale.

OpenAI has enhanced its current $38 billion AWS arrangement with an additional $100 billion commitment spanning the following eight years. The company will leverage two gigawatts of computational power utilizing Amazon’s proprietary Trainium chip technology.

This new arrangement with Amazon operates independently from OpenAI’s continuing relationship with Microsoft. Microsoft Azure maintains its position as the exclusive cloud infrastructure provider for OpenAI’s application programming interfaces, while Microsoft retains exclusive licensing rights to OpenAI’s intellectual property portfolio.

OpenAI and Microsoft released a joint statement affirming that their strategic partnership continues to be “strong and central” to both organizations.

    Infrastructure Strategy and Market Dynamics

OpenAI has established a target of approximately $600 billion in aggregate compute expenditure through 2030. This figure represents a reduction from the $1.4 trillion in infrastructure commitments that CEO Sam Altman mentioned in earlier communications.

CNBC sources indicated that leadership revised these projections downward after internal discussions highlighted concerns about expansion timelines outpacing achievable revenue forecasts.

OpenAI is deepening its collaboration with Nvidia through expanded infrastructure access. The arrangement provides three gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity alongside two gigawatts of training capacity utilizing Nvidia’s Vera Rubin system architecture.

Financial projections place OpenAI’s total revenue above $280 billion by 2030. Leadership anticipates balanced revenue streams, with consumer and enterprise segments contributing roughly equal proportions.

The company operates in an increasingly competitive landscape, facing Google’s Gemini in consumer applications. Within the enterprise artificial intelligence sector, Anthropic presents formidable competition after securing $30 billion in its most recent funding round and establishing significant early market traction.

OpenAI’s public market debut is scheduled for later this year. The $110 billion financing surpasses the previous private funding record, which OpenAI itself established with a $40 billion round led by SoftBank in the prior year.
