The above machine is my work machine. At my work place I have a statit IP address. I am now trying to use it at a relative's using his DSL Internet. I changed the network settings to obtain an IP address and DNS automatically. I also resgistered my mac address with his IP Provider as they only allow you to use 2 computers. I poerwerd off and on the modem, the hub and all both computers. After all this I keep getting a network unplugged message. I tried connecting directly to the modem but when I point to the network icon in the system tray it cycles between 'acquring network address' and network cable unplugged. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix this?

If you are trying to use a hub to connect two or more computers to the internet. It will not work without a router. The router is what issues the different IP addresses for each computer. The DSL is more than likely just a modem without a router. if it was a router combo then it would have a built in hub that would allow the connecting of other computers.

Also I use this same kind of hub at my buisiness partner's place and it works fine. The hub I am using is a dlink 19=0-baset ethernet hub model DE-805TP.

Your business partner's place more than likely all ready has a router in place.
