I have seen this posted before, but was to old to reply to. I have checked and the file is missing. The laptop is running (or rather not running) Win 98 Ver. 4.10.2222 I do not have a disk for this computer. I really need to get it started.
Thanks for the help guys!!! I got the file and loaded it, the computer loaded windows, and I was able to retrieve my files. One thing though, it doesn't go straight into windows. It stops for a second in the dos prompt, then continues to load windows.
The temporary dos screen is from the OS loading some stuff from config.sys and/or autoexec.bat. I wouldn't worry about it. If it's a problem run 'sysedit' and copy and paste the contents of those 2 files in your next posting.
The SET PATH line tells the computer where to look when it doesn't know what a command means. It was put there by some Rockwell software--maybe a modem?
There's nothing bad there. But if you decide you don't need some or all of that stuff loading you can run MSCONFIG and either disable config.sys or autoexec.bat altogether or disable the loading of specific lines of those files.
Rockwell Software is a programming software for PLC's. It is one of the main reasons we use the laptop. I guess I can live with a 10s delay as long as windows does start up. Thanks again for all your help.
