Comment:

As a recent Electrical Engineering graduate, I had the common sense to install Solaris 10 without partitioning anything first (I think, it seems the installation disk might have partitioned the space for the OS.)

I had hoped that I would still have the choice to boot into Vista for a while before I completely move to a new OS (my 64-bit system came with a 32-bit OS...how does that work?). I've come across a few articles on the web that describe a way to get vista to show up, but I'm not sure that applies to me.

Please tell me I didn't murder my system :).

Thanks,

Matt

Errr, humm, uhhhh, welllll.
Good news and bad.

You must be an engineer at heart. I know of no other profession that would state what you did , how you did. (Hope that you don't work with life supporting devices by the way.) Can you keep to low voltages too?

Bad news is you borked your system.

(I kid, I kid)

There is only a very small chance that you lucked out. The (or most) Vista DVD's are actually a way to boot into a sort of command prompt. See articles on how to boot to that live dvd. Or get a linux live cd to see if any ntfs partitions exists. Solaris should also mount that drive or show partition info too.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Thanks for the input. I will get onto this right away. I should also mention that when I try to enter the file system for Solaris, it tells me I have only 1GB free out of 160. I'm hoping this means that things aren't as bleak as you say, but yes, I'll drum up that Vista DVD this afternoon.

Thanks,

Matt

Some OEM systems have a hidden partition that is supposed to be used for making CD's/DVD's or to restore the system. There are other reasons one might have a small partition that might have been used.

You ought to be positive at least. I know solaris could tell you the state. See how to's on that.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
