When I installed the Samson C01U usb mic, it was recognized and correctly identified at bottom right popup from tool tray. Then a larger popup appeared asking me to help find the correct driver. Regardless of which option I selected I get the same message "Cannot install hardware" Unfortunately, Samson support has been non-existent. The mic is reported to work on XP and other systems using existing Windows drivers etc. Maybe one of my drivers is missing etc? When I search for the mic via control panel, sounds and audio devices - it does not appear on the list. Only place I find it showing is at System Information, where it is listed with other hardware with no drivers. I bought membership at TouchStone DriverAgent from your website, and scanned. 33% of my drivers were reported in need of update or non-existent. I uploaded most of them. Oddly, when I run the same scan after the uploads and reboot, the same results appear. Is that website legit? If you can help me get this USB mic working, I'll be grateful. Thanks - skip in Delaware

Linux02 - thanks for reply and links. I checked them both out. A lot of similar discussion but nothing that solves my problem. Please consider me a fairly fluent pc user but not an under the surface guru, like you guys. In other words, I know nothing more than the USB mic is not correctly recognized or I don't have the right driver(s) to make it work. I've searched the web for a week and read many discussions that did not help me. If I can't get a direct solution I'm out of business and stuck with a pretty well-made piece of metal. Any other suggestions?

I would not give up on an answer coming from this forum but if I were you maybe go back to those links and post your problem there also.
They both had people that had the same hardware as you have.
My knowledge of a USB mike only goes as far as the one that is on a Logitech headphone that when I plugged it in XP saw it and has worked since then.
Just another quick thought have you tried it on another machine, and are you plugging it into a USB hub,if so remove it for now.
I would also remove any other USB devices while you are trouble shooting this

Did you install the driver software that came with the C01U? That never worked for me, so i ended up actually uninstalling the driver and just plugging the microphone directly in the USB port - Windows XP should recognize it as a generic microphone. Haven't had a problem since - hope this helps!

hughsung - thanks for the post. I tried the mic without the software first and got what is described at top of this thread. Then as a last resort I installed the software from samson site - it didn't work either. I uninstalled it and rebooted... same problem. So far, I cannot get the mic to be completely recognized. I even paid for a year subscription at the driver site listed here at computing.net and downloaded drivers for USB that their scan said I needed - no change. Thanks again. I'm still hoping for a solution.

I hope there are other suggestions. I have gotten two responses from SAMSON tech support and so far, the mic is not recognized by my machine. Anyone?

Just some thoghts, have you tried this mic on anothre machine and also have you ever had a mic work on the machine you are having proplems with ?
Brand new out of the box does not mean that it is fully functional......

LinuxOS2 - thanks for responding. I have tried 3 regular pc mics on this machine and actually they worked but I could not get much volume from them. One of these mics came from my old pc upstairs where it sounds loud and clear. I have a phillips pc camera on this newer pc and it's internal mic works fine. This USB mic would be very nice for recording guitar, which is why I bought it but right now it's just a hunk of metal that does nothing.
