Ok I know there are tonnes of problems posted on this site about Windows 98 freezeing on the start up. Unfortunalty none of the solutions provided help me :\ I recently installed Windows 98 I was able to format the disk drive to fat32 perfectly and the intall work great untill when it goes searching for hardware. At this point it freezed and I did what the little message in the corner suggested and turned off the computer to reboot. I get to the splash screen and the little scrolly bar at the bottom freezes! I cant press escape to veiw an error (I have done so once and it gave me a blank screen with little flashy white bar).
When I go to boot in safe mode I get the same problem as well as if I try with networking support. Although if I go step by step config and choose yes to everything eccept aditional drivers I can get all the way to a working safe mode! I have tried running scanreg /fix and /restore both of which come back with no errors! Ontop of this I do not have CD-Drive access whilst in this mode :/ Help would be appreciated please :)

Have you checked on the Toshiba website? Your problem sounds like mis-identified hardware of some sort and Windows loading a driver that isn't compatable. Perhaps there is something in the support section for your laptop which refers to this problem.

Did you do the reinstall using the Toshiba Restore CD or a Win98 CD?

Toshiba hardware drivers are specific to Toshiba. Without them you may have great difficulty getting the Hardware to work.

You Can try the Toshiba Support site to see of the Drivers for your PARTICULAR model are available. Windows98 is no longer supported by Toshiba, but some drivers are available.

Look on the bottom of your Laptop,. There are several Stickers that have Toshiba Support info. Web Sites and an 800 number that I've had good success with. (real Humans).

When refering to your system the Model number from the System ID sticker is invaluable. There should also be a Sticker with the COA and Product code for the original OS.

If you call the 800 number have all the info from the bottom of the machine available.

Might help if you post your EXACT Model #. Someone here may be able to better direct you to what you need.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.
