i can`t access by ftp or telnet to the server if i'm not at the console port, i tried to edit the /etc/defalut/login file but it just don't accept the changes, i already check the permissions and they're ok, the vi editor doesn't send any errors but the file just don't do the changes, it's pretty much the same

So your question is really how to save to a file that doesn't have write privs. When you quit your vi session after commenting out the CONSOLE line in /etc/default/login save the file
ESCAPE wq!

If you want ftp access as root, modify the file /etc/ftpusers or /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess depending on the version. The file /etc/ftpuser contains a list of users prohibited from ftp access. The ftpaccess list prohibited users by userid.
