Subject: Any good games to run on windows 98
OS: Windows 98
CPU/Ram: Intel Celeron 566 MHz 64
Comment:

I have Diablo 2 and its expansion set. I love it, and I love connecting it to the internet and using battle.net. But are there any games somewhat like it the perhaps I might like? And that can run on Win 98? And I am ready to upgrade my ram and os. So what should I upgrade my ram to? And should I just go with XP don't forget, GAMING!
Thanks,
Computerguy

Well,

Windows XP can be likened to a mixture of Windows 2000 and 9x in the way that the drivers and functionality needed for gaming is much better than it was in 2000 but all the applications and features used for business and commerce and networking are still in XP (aka Windows NT5)
So, upgrading to Windows XP is a good idea, but you definitely need at least 256MB of a good quality RAM to use XP and I would also consider getting a new CPU(and inadvertantly a new motherboard)

It all comes down to how much you want to upgrade your PC. Your motherboard will have a limit to the amount of RAM it supports and it will have a limit to the speed of the CPU also. You need to start with the limitations of the motherboard and then work your way to the components like CPU, Memory chips.

Hope this helps,

Shaun

As for games, from personal experience I would reccommend Heroes of Might and Magic 1-3. They are turn-based strategy games, and they're a lot of fun. Also I have heard a lot of good stuff about Warcraft and Starcraft. They have good online gaming options, too.

Upgrading to XP on a 566 celeron is a terrible idea.

XP is a resource hog.

Win98 screams along on my AMD Athlon 2500XP barton (333mhz bus).

All games out now work with Windows 98. Even Halo.
