Please advise me on a DOS Question.I've read that if you have DOS 6.2.2 & WIN 95 (I have both) that this line should be in your Config.Sys: DEVICE=C:\Windows\EMM386.EXE RAM AUTO, etc. and that if it's not, you should put it in. I did, but, when I rebooted, DOS, booting up, had a line stating that EMM386 is not installed. Why is it saying it's not installed? I used to have DOS 5 and WIN3.0 and that EMM386 line was always in Config.Sys. Should it be in there now with DOS 6.2.2 & WIN95?

Memory management under Windows 9X is not done via the config.sys file. This is only for dos, any dos supporting EMM386.EXE from Microsoft in this case.Using a boot disk will take care of your problem. When you shut down Windows to dos you get a basic dos.You need to load HIMEM.SYS before EMM386.EXE to get the last to work. Some programs will benefit from using HIMEM.SYS only giving you more conventional memory and upper memory management. EMM386.EXE is used to get XMS or EMS memory management depending on memory the program uses.I prefer to use a number like 4096 instead of AUTO.Good luck.

Thank you. I probably didn't put the EMM386 line where I should have. I'll do that and change it from Auto as you said. I never bothered with a boot disk because I would just always Format C, put in my full DOS 6.2.2 floppies and my CD ROM disk and my WIN95 full disk and my Sounds floppies. But I probably put the EMM386 on the wrong line in the Config.Sys. I do have a lot of dos games that I play from a DOS graphics shell and I thought the EMM386 might make them play better. Thanks again for helping me.
