Comment: Okeydoke, so I have the money in the bank, but undecided on which platform I will go for. Its either (and only either) the AMD Athlon 64X2 5000+ or the Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 chip. Which would you guys pick? Regards, Mick. http:\\www.bebo.com\shadowfax-irl1Ghz PIII 512mb RAM Aopen MX3WPRO-E mobo Intel 810 chipset 64MB Sapphire Radeon 7000 PCI

Reply: Go with the E7200 it outbenchmarks the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ in most cases by a decent margin. If it's broke, then blow that sucka up!

Reply: From the get-go, there's a fundamental problem with your comparison. One of your CPUs cost twice as much as the other. So, it's flawed thinking to expect the E7200 not to be the better pick. It also has way more L2 cache & is based on a smaller manufacturing technology ... 45nm vs. 65nm on the Athlon 64 X2 5000+ It is a no-brainer which is better. Jabbering Idiots: Everywhere You Look!

Reply: Thanks for the info, much appreciated. For me, there is only a slight margin in the prices. (Trade, you see) In reply to Sabertooth, I was not concerned with the price margin at all, it was not in my origional question, but thank you for answering. I'm a firm believer in "Just because its more expensive, does not necesarily mean it's better". Regardless, thank you very much for the speedy replys guys, cheers. Reply: My response to your inquiry has nothing to do with beliefs. FYI. Microchips just like performance vehicles are typically priced based on performance. The emphasis of my response was: you are comparing products that are not equivalent - period! A car based on a V8 620HP engine will cost more than a similar version based on a V6 with 195HP ... you can argue that just because the V8 is more expensive, does not necessarily mean it's better. The truth is: they are not in the same category. Take care ;-) Jabbering Idiots: Everywhere You Look!

Reply: I totally understand what you mean, But I had not asked any question of the sort, just which is better. The price is not different for me at all, therefore I would not have been aware of it.
