Computer is getting sloooow.

For the past few months our computer has been creeping. The internet is sluggish, it takes longer to start and sometimes it locks up while surfing the net with a (not responding) message requiring a restart. I have norton anti virus and spyware doctor. I dont believe I have a virus. Is there a way to see if its just an inexpensive part i need to replace or do i need to get a whole new computer. The computer is a pentium 4 CPU 3.60ghz with 2.00 gb of ram. We dont play games just surf the net and pay bills etc… We have windows XP home edition.
All aspects of the computer have just seemed to slow down.

  1. Your specs you listed are perfect for running XP, so you don’t need to buy a new PC. What I’d do is download, install, and update Malawarebytes Anti-Malaware. Do a scan and remove anything it says to. Then update and scan with Norton as well. Report back if your PC speeds up after doing this.
