I have an older laptop running on vista that no longer starts windows. Have taken out the HD and connected it to a “cradle”, hoping to recover some files from it, using CMD prompt commands. Found Suatcini’s advice from 2010.
https://computing.net/answers/wi…
Running CMD prompt (as admin) cacls “F:” /E /T /C /G Administrators:F gives me a blinking cursor, but no response otherwise. The same happens trying to open a simple text file with “edit”. Any suggestions for the CMD prompt – or to get windows going again?
Thank you.
Marc

message edited by Marc_Nic

Are you working in a command prompt box from windows desktop or did you boot directly to safe mode command prompt?
