Error 174 On IBM Thinkpad 380D

I was given this thinkpad by a friend and I got an error code 163. I replaced the MB battery and got to the date screen and set it. Rebooted and I now get error code 174, which the manual lists as device configuration error. It reads have the computer serviced. can you help me correct the problem.
