as soon as i log on, i get a box saying sunflower osd is not supported. what is sunflower osd? This is annoying, as soon as I click ok, the box disappears.

What this Sunflower is actually used for I’ve no idea, I’ve never heard of it and Google doesn’t come up with anything helpful.
It’s definitely not part of Windows though, so it isn’t required for Windows to work properly. To get rid of the error message you will need to uninstall Sunflower.
You should see it listed in Programs & Features, from here you can uninstall it. How to remove software in Windows 8:
