Solved Chkdsk G: /f /r /x Stage 5 at 56 Hours Only 53%

  • 0

My 1TB external drive was recognized but would not open. The message I was receiving was “G: is not accessible. Parameter is incorrect.”

After doing some research I decided to run chkdsk. The first time it failed in Stage 2 with an “unexpected error” message. So, I started chkdsk again and went to bed.

That was 56 hours ago. It has been in Stage 5 since Wednesday morning and it is now Friday afternoon.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  1. Is the percentage increasing? If so, let it do its thing.
Is the disk actually doing something? If so, let it do its thing.
Is there a faster way to connect? Chkdsk is slow even when dealing with internal drives. If you can connect to it over a faster interface, you might have better luck.
