Lenovo Laptop Win7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 Intel Core I7-2670QM cpu @ 2.20GHz, 8.0GB ram, HD Graphics 3000.
The only time Windows Updates was available was when the icon came up on the screen last week. It wasn’t until today (Friday 3-13), the icon came up. In between updates, I try to locate windows update after it says it’s turned off, and you need to restart the computer. I restarted, same message comes back up. Also, in windows update screen, the part about “Find out more about free software from (null)” is what it says. And, it shows “Updates were installed: Never” (updates were done last week) I go to Administrative Tools under Services; It is not there in the list. AND, also, there is no option to select: Stop, Start, etc. any of the services.
I bought this laptop I think about 3 years ago, (used it to play games), so until 1 1/2 weeks ago it was never online to know if it was like this when I bought it, it was not an issue. warranty be out on it by now. Once about a year ago, I did a reinstall from internal backup to get rid of a wi-fi issue, so I have a feeling this computer was messed up with this issue when I bought it. just my thoughts. right now it’s updating.

That sounds very suspicious.
Run MalwareBytes on it as this often finds and fixes what an Anti-Virus can miss:
http://filehippo.com/download_malwa…
(green Download button top right – not anything else on the page)
Run the program but before doing the scan go to “Settings > Detection and Protection” and put a checkmark in “Scan for rootkits”.
If it finds anything then please copy/paste the logs on here because even if the symptoms are cured you are likely to still have things lurking around that require further cleaning. If nothing is found let us know.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks
