My Nortel VPN Client (10.01.103) didn’t even run, but simply threw me this error message when started: “Failed to connect to VPN service component.”
Under “Services” I found a Windows service installed by the VPN client, called “Nortel VPN Client” (Description: “Nortel VPN Client Service”). It was disabled.
By enabling and starting this service, I was able to launch the VPN client and establish my VPN connection without getting this error message again.
PROBLEM SOLVED.
Why did I post this? While troubleshooting I found the same problem described in this forum back in 2012 (titled “What is VPN service component?”), and would love to post this reply to that thread, but that thread is closed. Thus I have to start a new thread to post this solution.
