I have gotten the Ultra Defragger virus on my laptop and I have tried a few different ways to get rid of it and have been unsuccessful. My laptop which is an Asus G51J series doesn’t have a recovery drive so I can’t easily restore the laptop back to factory settings. So I am wondering what is the best way to get this done? I don’t have a copy of the windows disc and would like to steer clear of installing any pirated versions of Windows on this machine.
please help!
thank you for your time
Start the machine and tap on the “F9” key until you see that you are in reset mode.
Follow the on screen instructions and you should be able to reset the machine to a “just-out-of-the-box” condition.
Unfortunately you will loose anything you have saved or changes you have have made but the machine should be ready for you to start all over again.
if that does not work try tapping f2 and then f8, there are many ways to get into the factory restore, each manufacturer has a different method it seems,
It is unusual in current times for any computer to be shipped without a recovery partition or at least a recovery disk. Asus will probably be able to either give you a download link for an ISO image to burn a DVDr for a recovery disk for free, or sell you (at a reasonable fee) recovery DVD mailed to you.
A few additional pieces of additional advice:
After you get it running ‘just right’ again, make your own recovery disk (the option is right in windows 7).
Make sure you have a really good Antivirus/AntiSpyware program and not one of the name brand bloatware (Norton and McAfee) programs (update and scan often). Plus keep Malwarebytes around for spot checks if you suspect other problems that might have slipped through.
If you don’t have one, get a portable hard drive for personal back ups of your personal files on your laptop.
