How Do I Convert Files Into Folders In Win 7?

  • 4

My desktop had a startup error, so I used command prompt to copy the content of the HDD to an external hard drive. My MS-DOS ability is rusty so instead of making a new folder before copying the files, I copied the files to a non-existant directory e.g. i copied my pictures to “E:\PICS\NIKON” even though the directory “NIKON” never existed.

So now, im stuck with couple of files which do not know that they are folders or directories, and are labelled “File” instead. Can anybody help me solve the problem without booting up my desktop again? ive put it away for good.

  1. Windows Explorer is one choice that should at least get you part way.

Right clicking on the item and choosing properties should show you the file extension, if there is one. If the item is a folder then there won’t be an extension.
