This is problem is somewhat connected to computer problems but not sure if it qualifies on this site. I have used my HP D1400 printer a number of times with no problems. Now, there is a blinking light on the printer that won’t stop!
I’ve done this: pulled both plugs from the back of the printer, waited a minute and replaced them….
*Turned off the power strip, then on
* Checked to see if this printer was default, it was
*Downloaded testing for the printer and no problems were found.
*Removed both ink cartridges and replaced them w/those removed.
*Removed the back of the printer and blew in it even though there was no dust, etc.
*Installed updates
*Checked troubleshooting with HP….no help
*Did the Recovery process
*Tried others suggestions re: same problem
*Checked printer status and it was fine
*Tried printing something, printer read: ‘ready to print’ Yet nothing happened. Light flashing
*No paper jam
*Attempted more but nothing works. It’s probably a simple solution but I’ve tried ‘simple’ I suppose I can just buy a new printer but I have unopened new ink cartridges both black and color and don’t want to toss them, as they no longer be returned. There must be a solution out there…..maybe.

Delete the printer icon in devices and printers. Do not uninstall the drivers. Click Add Printer in devices and printers. Windows will search the system for the driver and will find the correct driver on your system and install it.
The alternative is to delete the printer and then unplug the printer from the computer. Download the correct driver for your system from HP’s site and run it. It will tell you when to plug the printer in an complete the installation and test the print. SINCE this is a very old printer type, HP will not actually have the drivers for Windows 7 so you will probably have to allow Windows 7 to use its own generic drivers for the printer. To do this, just install the printer with it already plugged in and if Window cannot find the HP driver, it will ask you if it should select the appropriate driver (you probably will have to select the printer model from their list). Normal printing will work this way but other features like ink monitoring will not show up on screen.
I know you tried ‘lots or things’, but did you try this: Using rubbing alcohol clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges and the associated contacts on the printer from ink residue.
Finally, Printers Do wear out. You probably have paid many times the price of the printer in the price of ink. You will get better results with a new printer and it will not be that expensive. If the remaining ink you have is still sealed, consider selling it on ebay.
